Newsletters for Week of February 22, 2016

We had a wonderful time with Pajama Day and Healthy Breakfast this week!  As you may have seen, all our teachers joined in the fun by wearing pajamas to school along with the children.  I cooked breakfast in the PreK class, where the children were fascinated to watch how scrambled eggs are made.  They all did a great job of trying different foods and talking about why some foods are more healthy than others.  Healthy habits that start young can last for a lifetime!

Have a happy and healthy weekend everyone,

Jennifer

Dear Parents,

We talked about breakfast foods and we each made our own healthy breakfast placemat.  We read We’re Making Breakfast For Mother, and Hey Pancakes.  Thank you Morah Jen for the delicious breakfast, especially the hot eggs!

We used a toothbrush to paint on Thursday.  We watched a “Brush Your Teeth” video.  We practiced our cutting skills while making a toothbrush craft on Friday and we read, Brontosaurus Breath.

If you would like to sign up to read to us in the library, please see the sign up sheet outside our classroom.  You are welcome to send a grandparent instead, if possible.  Our next library day is Wednesday.

We enjoyed Zumba with Ms. Joe on Monday.

We would like to welcome Nikita to our class!

Shabbat Shalom and have a great weekend!

As always, our week was filled with laughter, fun, and so much learning!

We learned all about what foods we should eat to keep our body healthy and happy. We know that foods containing lots of sugar are not good for our teeth. Our adorable “Happy Face” project was a wonderful reminder to always eat lots of fruits, vegetables, etc.

The children loved coming to school on Wednesday wearing their PJs! Morah Jen made delicious scrambled eggs for all the children. They also were given lots more yummy choices – grapefruit and orange slices, pineapple, watermelon, regular milk, chocolate milk, orange juice, and Greek Yogurt.

Everyone had fun painting a cutout of a tooth with something very unusual – a toothbrush dipped in colorful paint! They attached a pretend toothbrush as a reminder to always brush their teeth at least two times each day.

On Wednesday each child enjoyed bringing to school their favorite storybook to show the class.

We introduced the children to the letter “O” this week as they painted lots of “octopuses”, and giggled as they listened to the story Olive the Octopus’s Day of Juggling.

As always our class had fun at Yoga with Ms. Jo on Monday.

Shabbat Shalom! Have a wonderful weekend!

Pre-K Weekly Newsletter

We had a perfect week in our class learning the Letter “P”.  We learned all about Penguins and Pandas. Samadrita loved acting like a penguin all over the room. Some interesting facts about penguins is that the father sits on the eggs till they hatch, love cold weather, they cannot fly, and they live in a colony. We made a penguin project and asked the children if they were a penguin what would they do? They had some creative answers and a lot of children used facts that were discussed during circle time.

Ian: I will take care of the baby.

Rhia:  I will be a fashion designer

Nikita: I will slide on my belly.

Anushree: I will give my baby kisses.

Yashvi: I will play in the snow with mommy and daddy.

Aditi: I will play with my toys.

Sai Vishnu:  Swim in the water.

The children work on a weekly open ended question and they are writing everything on their own. They are so determined to write and read. Mrs. Parekh and I are really impressed with each and every one of them.

We also met my friend Peppa Pig who lives in a penthouse, drives a Porsche, loves purple and pink, eats pizza, and love pretty ponies.

This week we also had a discussion about being healthy by eating good foods, exercising, getting enough sleep, and brushing your teeth. We discussed what would happen if you do not take care of yourself and your teeth. Everyone had a lot to say. Then we had our healthy breakfast cooked by our very own Morah Jen. She went all out for this breakfast and the children were so grateful as well as the teachers. They ate eggs, fruit, yogurt, cereal, milk, and orange juice.  We all felt we were in a restaurant. The children even tried foods they never had before. We also had Zumba with Mrs. Jo to Shake it off and Frozen songs. It was so cute to watch the children shake their hips.

We ended our week working on our Alphabet book and stated working on Purim which helped because it starts with “P”.

We want to wish Samadrita and her family good luck in their future endeavors.  They will be missed.

We read Paddington Bear and the Busy Bee Carnival by Michael Bond and discussed letter B words we found all over the classroom. We then made a craft to go along with the book.
