Congregation B’nai Tikvah has a long and storied history in this community
The history of Congregation B’nai Tikvah goes back to the 1940s when a small group of Jewish farmers were interested in forming a Jewish Center.
At the time, High Holiday services and celebrations were held in the homes of some of the farmers. In January of 1942 the Jewish Farmers Community Center of Middlesex County was created and a site was purchased on Old Georges Road near the North Brunswick border.
For the first 25 years, there was no rabbi serving the congregation. In 1963, the name was changed to The Jewish Community Center of South Brunswick Shari Shalom. Jump ahead 15 years, in 1978, Congregation B’nai Tikvah was established with the merger of three area congregations, two from South Brunswick, Shari Shalom and Beth Shalom and the Jewish Community Center of North Brunswick Congregation.
