June:

  • The roof replacement over the sanctuary and social hall, and replacement of HVAC units for the sanctuary and social hall were both completed, and both have been paid for in full.
  • We entered into a new lease with the Cheder Menachem (Chabad) school, that will continue through June of 2029.

August:

  • On August 25th, the front doors were broken, and a vandal briefly entered the building. No other damage was done. The doors were boarded up and secured the same day. Replacement glass was ordered and installed, and a claim was filed with our insurance carrier.  The suspected perpetrator has since been apprehended and is now awaiting trial.

September:

  • Chair setup for the high holidays was completed on Monday, September 30th, and we appreciate everyone who came to assist with that process, as well as putting out the Machzors, cutting apples, and other preparations.

October:

  • While our building is connected to the public sewer system, we do have a pump that assists the waste that leaves the building in making its way out to the public sewer line. This pump is in need of replacement, and new pump has been ordered. This was not a budgeted expense, and the total project cost is estimated at between $7,000 to $10,000.

November:

  • We are looking into a program with PSE&G to assist with energy efficiency upgrades to the facility. The program can provide subsidies for up to 70% to 80% of the cost of these upgrades, and the remainder of the cost can be paid over 5 years, with no interest. We are in the early stages of applying for this program.  A big thanks goes out to Harry Uniman for bringing this program to our attention.

I would like to take a moment to thank Julio, our Custodian, for all that he does in and around the building; Marci Abschutz, our Office Assistant, for the important supporting role that she plays; and especially Lesley Lewkowicz, our Executive Director.  Lesley wears so many different hats and every week she is engaged in supporting every aspect of our Congregation. I’m very grateful for the caring, knowledge and dedication that she brings to her role, and we are very fortunate to have her as a part of our B’nai Tikvah family.

Lastly, please help us to protect our building and all who gather here by keeping doors closed. If you see a door propped open, or any security concern, please let me or Lesley know immediately.

Please feel free to contact me directly with any questions or concerns.
