Newsletters for Week of February 8, 2016
Dear Parents,
As you will see from the classroom newsletters, this was a very busy week in our school! We welcomed several new students, this week and last, in each of our classes. All of our new students are adjusting beautifully and they have been welcomed warmly by their classroom friends.
We have a busy week coming up as well. Please take note of these dates:
- On Monday we are closed for the Presidents’ Day holiday
- On Wednesday Mrs. Winter’s class and Mrs. Tilbor’s class are going to the theater! We will go to the State Theater in New Brunswick — on a school bus, which is always one of the children’s favorite parts of every field trip — for a production of The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Other Stories by Eric Carle. The teachers have been reading many Eric Carle books to the children in anticipation of this trip. Ask your child about all the things the very hungry caterpillar ate.
Also . . . it is that time of the year again already . . .
Registration opens for Summer Camp and School 2016-17 next week! Registration packets will come home in your child’s backpacks. Please take note of the Early Bird discounts and deadlines, and be sure to sign up soon to reserve your child’s space.
Finally, I want to remind everyone to send in a cold weather change of clothing for your child. Many of the extra outfits we have in the classrooms were sent in when the weather was warm, and if we need to change your child’s clothing for any reason we want to have a weather-appropriate set of clothes. Thank you for your attention to this.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Jennifer
2’s Weekly Newsletter
Dear Parents,
We each made our own “big red barn” after reading the book The Big Red Barn. The five-day children made horses and read You Are My Baby and Cock-a-Doodle Doo, Crack Pop Pop Moo. We made black sheep and read Barn Dance. We’ve been singing “Old McDonald Had A Farm” all week!
On Friday we talked about presidents. We made Abe Lincoln masks and read Celebrating President’s Day.
We would like to welcome Tamar and Aanya to our class. They are acclimating nicely.
Family Art Night is coming up in April. We will be turning our school into an art gallery for the evening. As a result, some projects won’t be sent home with each child. These projects will go home after Family Art Night.
Next week we will continue talking about the farm and farm animals. Shabbat Shalom and have a great weekend!

Our week has been quite busy, and as always, it was filled with so much fun and learning!
We learned all about taking good care of our teeth by brushing at least twice a day, and visiting the Dentist.
We learned that teeth need healthy foods to prevent their decay. We have also been talking about getting plenty of sleep and rest, exercising, dressing appropriately for the weather, and getting lots of fresh air – all necessary for good health. The importance of personal hygiene was stressed this week (combing their hair, taking a bath or shower, and washing hands with soap and water after using the bathroom, and before eating.) In an effort to prevent the transmission of germs from one child to another, we have been trying to impress upon the children the importance of covering their mouth when they sneeze or cough.
Everyone loved cutting and then coloring the biggest toothbrush and toothpaste ever. They knew they could never fit that in their mouth! They began creating their very own “Cover Your Sneeze” plate as a reminder to use a tissue or to cough and sneeze into their elbow.
On Monday, we made delicious French toast for snack, and on Wednesday our class enjoyed cool refreshing “Yippee Yogurt” pops, made with vanilla yogurt and frozen apple juice concentrate. These were perfect snacks to show the children how diet plays an important role in helping their body and their teeth stay strong and healthy.
We also learned about two very important men in our history who are celebrating a birthday this week – George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. We spoke about how different their lives were from each other as young boys, and how they both studied and worked hard, and grew up to be President of the United States! Washington and Lincoln are so important that their face is on money!
Using popsicle sticks, the children made a beautiful replica of Abe Lincoln’s log cabin.
They had fun imagining what George Washington looked like, when they used cotton balls to make his white hair!
Our class had so much fun decorating paper winter hats by dipping a carrot into colorful paint. It was agreed upon by the children that this was surely an unusual painting experience. They will soon be strengthening their fine motor skills as they lace together the front and back of their hat.
We introduced the children to the letter “N” this week when they painted lots of “numbers” for this page of their alphabet book, and listened to the story The Nicest Newt.
We are looking forward to our trip to the State Theater on Wednesday February 17th to see Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The children loved hearing the story this week in school!
Please be reminded that school will be closed on Monday in observance of President’s Day.
Shabbat Shalom! Have a wonderful weekend!

Pre-K Weekly Newsletter
We had an outstanding week in our class learning the Letter “O”. One of their favorite characters is Olaf and we had a lot of fun with him. We had a frozen dance party and we had fun with the song, “Do you want to build a snowman.” The answer from our class was YES so we made an Olaf night light. We also worked on our alphabet book and an ocean project. Show and tell was a lot of fun too we had some Olafs, Oranges, Ostriches, and an Owl. The class also learned about opposites and we did a live demonstration in the classroom where Samadrita couldn’t stop laughing. The children were the actors and taught the class.
The class is also getting ready for our show, “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”. We read the book by Eric Carl and discussed the story by asking questions to the children. Ian and Sai Vishnu were so excited to hear the book they jumped in their seats. Nikita and Rhia couldn’t stop talking about going to the show. During the story, we also talked about sequencing and the children had to retell the story in the exact order and from memory. They were great. The class then painted their own hungry caterpillar which Yashvi and Aditi loved to do. Then we worked on a sequencing caterpillar project which the children had to tell what he ate in order.
We also celebrated the presidents birthday and special birthday in our class our very own. Mrs. Parekh. She is like the president in our class and we are lucky to have her. The class talked about the white house, voting and Lincoln and Washington. We even made a picture to celebrate the holiday.
Important dates:
- Monday, February 15th: No School
- Wednesday, February 17th: Class Trip to Theater (no show and tell)
- Friday, February 19th: Schoolwide Shabbat
Have a great weekend

Tuesday: Imagination Station – Mrs. Tilbor and Mrs. Winter
We watched a video of Vincent Van Gogh and talked about the artist. The video was geared to children and the children had many laughs. We then created one of his famous paintings, “Starry Night”. We used paint and some 3-d mediums.
Thursday: Storybook Network – Mrs. Tilbor and Mrs. Shemo
We read the House for a Hermit Crab by Eric Carle and discussed our homes and the story. We then made a craft to go along with the book.
Motion and Potions: Mrs. Tilbor and Mrs. Shemo
We continued with our winter theme. Last week we made marshmallow snowmen and this week we made marshmallow penguins. The class also danced to animal action and Alphabet bean bag rock. We had our own dance party.
