“If you want to know who a person is, ask them what kind of music they like, because music is not about what you have, it’s what you are longing for.”
Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach

Being your cantor is a great job with awesome responsibility. I enjoy the opportunity to serve you, which motivates me to improve and learn everyday. I am inspired by the music and the words of prayer that I sing with you. My search is for you as well as personal; I seek music that can inspire us, we need to reach our spiritual desires.

We are all experiencing unusually troubling times. The economic state of affairs in our country is touching all of us and we are all adjusting. What can you we do? Much that has been taken for granted must be addressed and the daily challenges which we and our neighbors confront will be understood in new way. Will music help? Music can transform and motivate us. I love music, and more than anything it sooths me and reminds me of the goodness of the world. Music is refreshing as a summer breeze and inspired by God.

In a few days (Sunday April 5th at 4pm) thanks to the generous support of L’dor Vador’s donors, B’nai Tikvah will be hosting a free family concert. The Mama Doni Band will perform on our bima. Mama Doni plays “funky Jewish music with a twist”. She gets everyone smiling and feeling good about being Jewish!

It is our mission to teach our children about our love of our legacy. Your children will love this concert and want more and what’s more, Mama Doni’s music will add to their growing love of Judaism, the seed that you are so lovingly planted.

From this music, some day, with God’s help, I pray that we will see our children sing and dance as they celebrate their contribution to building a better world through their love and understanding of Judaism. This is what I long for, and is the reason that I love this music.

Worship the Lord in gladness; come before God with joyous song.
