Matthew Bergman joined the Congregation B’nai Tikvah community after more than two decades of experience in Jewish education, camping, nonprofit leadership, and community engagement. His passion for Judaism, Israel, and Jewish communal life has shaped both his professional career and personal journey, inspiring a lifelong commitment to building meaningful Jewish experiences and strengthening community connections.
Raised in Hillsborough, New Jersey, Matt spent his summers at Young Judaea camps from the age of six through his late twenties. It was there that his love for Israel, Jewish identity, and leadership first took root. Following college, Matt became a special education teacher, where he developed the patience, empathy, and problem-solving skills that continue to guide his work today.
After leaving the classroom, Matt transitioned into the Jewish nonprofit sector, most recently serving with Honeycomb, the youth philanthropy initiative of the Jewish Funders Network. In that role, he helped support Jewish communities across North America and beyond through educational programming, philanthropy training, leadership development, communications, and community engagement. His work allowed him to combine his passions for education, philanthropy, and Israel while empowering the next generation of Jewish leaders.
Matt and his wife, Marisa, now reside in Bridgewater, where they are raising their sons, Emmet and Boaz. Deeply committed to Jewish communal life, Matt has served in volunteer leadership roles within his local synagogue and has become an active advocate for Jewish life and Israel throughout the broader community. Alongside their two dogs, Kelce and Deni, the Bergman family enjoys creating meaningful Jewish experiences both at home and in the community.
Outside of work, Matt is an avid sports fan who can often be found cheering on the Philadelphia Eagles, Philadelphia Flyers, and New York Yankees. He has also served as captain of his men’s league hockey team for the past seven years, an experience that reflects his leadership style, commitment to teamwork, and belief in bringing people together around shared goals.
As Executive Director of Congregation B’nai Tikvah, Matt is excited to bring his collaborative leadership style, passion for relationship-building, and commitment to service to support the congregation’s growth, strengthen its programs, and help create a vibrant and welcoming community for current and future generations.
