Activities

We kicked off the new fiscal year continuing with the theme of Come Back to Tikvah.  With strict Covid regulations in place, we were able to provide:

  • Two movie nights on the Kiddush room patio: August 8th – Grease and September 18th – Keeping Up with the Steins.  We had about 30 people at each event.
  • Two Bike Ride events, led by our own Bobbi Binder and Marty Abschutz on July 11th and August 29th.
  • Hiking in Old Bridge on October 10th
  • True Colors virtual event – humorous, revealing, and inspiring stories from Jews of Color exploring identity, community and being a Jew in modern times. This event was held November 20th
  • Everything You Always Wanted to Know: Jewish Holiday Series led by Rabbi Wolkoff.  Featured were Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Chanukah and others.
  • The Fiber Arts Group has met multiple times (knitting, crocheting and more)
  • Poker Night
  • The Social Action Committee had a session where they packaged seven “Birthday Party in a Box” packages for local immigrant children. They also created a “Little Pantry” house in the CBT parking lot for our neighbors in need.
  • “My Jewish Year” virtual book chat scheduled for December 9th was postponed and will now be a hybrid virtual/live event on February 17th.  This is a virtual book chat with author Abigail Pogrebin.

Tonight’s event:  Laine Kazan – Up Close and Personal.  This is a virtual event.  There will be a movie clip and a video of Lainie singing and she will talk about her life, career and answer questions LIVE through the chat.

Membership

  • We welcomed five new member units to our CBT Family. A few members left our congregation as well.   Hopefully with the warmer weather and demise of the virus, we can begin to engage our membership in person soon.
  • Our Bikur Cholim committee has been actively helping fellow congregants who are ill or recovering at home by doing various errands (picking up prescriptions, doing light shopping, providing transportation to doctor visits, etc.)   They also provide Shabbat meals for those who are having some difficulty providing form themselves or their families.    We hope, someday soon, when the virus subsides, to begin visiting the ill at the hospital or recovering at home.

Ways and Means

  • The Brick Campaign is back in full swing. We currently have 60 orders to date with a gross of $17,000.   We are currently halfway to our goal of 120 orders.    We will continue taking orders until March 1.    The great reveal of the new brick walkway will be celebrated at our Annual Gala on Saturday, June 25th.
  • The celebration for Cantor Rockman’s 20+ years at CBT scheduled for late October has been postponed due to Covid.
  • Our highly anticipated Dueling Pianos event that was scheduled for February 5th will be rescheduled to a future date.
  • Our annual Gala was moved to June 25th to accommodate for an outdoor event.   Major planning is currently underway to make this another spectacular evening.  This year’s theme is “Under the Stars” where we can all honor our heroes.   Save the date!!
