2’s Weekly Newsletter

Ms. Jo introduced us to yoga on Monday.  She will be alternating yoga and Zumba for the remainder of the school year.  Although it’s still March on our calendar, it’s beginning to feel more like spring.  We have been enjoying time on our playground again.  Please be sure your children are always wearing safe, comfortable shoes for the playground.  Crocs and sandals are not the best choices for climbing.

Good Night Sweet ButterfliesWe finished our butterflies and read Good Night Sweet Butterflies.  We painted ladybugs and the five-day children created ant trails using marble painting.  We read Ten Little Ladybugs, Bugs, Bugs, Bugs, The Tiny Ant, and The Ant And The Grasshopper.  All of these projects are displayed in the hallway.  Please be sure to look for them.  We’ve also been singing “Little Ladybug”.

We celebrated Shabbat with Cantor Rockman and the rest of the nursery school children.

Next week we will be talking about the Jewish holiday of Purim.  Get your costumes ready.  You’ll need them on Monday, March 21.

We would like to wish Aanya and Severa Happy Birthday!

Shabbat Shalom and have a great weekend!

Wow! What an action packed week it has been for the children in our class! “March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb” became a familiar phrase to all of us this week. We learned a new very big word- unpredictable!  March is usually a very unpredictable month, with each day bringing us a variety of weather conditions until Spring finally arrives. With the unusual 70 degree temperature this week, we loved playing outdoors!

We discussed the March winds, harmful and gentle wind, as well as various things that the wind can move.

Go Away Big Green MonsterThe children created the most outrageous big green monster, after listening to the story Go Away Big Green Monster (and don’t come back until I say so!) Their precious monsters are proudly displayed in our hallway for everyone to admire.

The noisiest, liveliest Jewish holiday of the year – Purim, is almost here, and we are surely very busy preparing for all the fun and excitement associated with this holiday!

Everyone designed their very own beautiful Shalach Manot basket to fill soon with treats to share with their family and friends. They created very “mean” (but funny!!) Haman groggers (noisemakers) to shake and yell “Boo” each time Haman’s name is mentioned! We baked delicious triangle shaped Hamentashen cookies this week. We filled the center of each one with chocolate chips.

We have been learning all about the Megillah, which is read in synagogue on Purim. It tells the story of Queen Esther, King Ahaseurus, Uncle Mordecai, and of course, Haman.

As always our class enjoyed yoga with Miss Jo on Monday, and we welcomed Shabbat with Cantor Rockman on Friday at our Schoolwide Shabbat Party.

Shabbat Shalom!  Have a wonderful weekend!

Pre-K Weekly Newsletter

We had a Remarkableweek in our class learning the Letter “R”.  We continued to working on Rhyming while getting ready for spring. The Pre-K class also had many reasons to have fun in our class. We worked on several projects with the letter “R” and the children were on a roll telling us letter “R” words. The class worked on a rocket ship project, talked about the colors of a rainbow, made a raccoon. They also learned about raccoons and how they are nocturnal animals who like to come out at night to eat. We asked the children if they were on a rocket ship where would they go:

Anushree:      Petunia Drive

Aditi:              Costco

Rhia:               Animal Kingdom

Nikita:            New York City

Yashvi:           India

Sai Vishnu:    New Jersey

Ian:                 The Moon

The children had creative ideas and even tried writing it themselves.

In our class, we are always trying to make creative play fun as well as learning. The children do not even realize they are learning because they are laughing too much. We started new things this week the children love. During circle-time, we play a game called pick a card any card. The children love saying it and the purpose of the game is to pick a card without looking to see what they need to do. It is either a letter or number and they have to tell the class a word that starts with the letter or the number they picked. They also have to write it on the board. They love this because it makes them feel like they are the teacher. We also started a game at the end of the day. I give them a letter and before they leave for the day they have to think of a word before the gate opens. I have never seen so many giggles coming from these children when they come to the gate.

Our special this week was yoga and Miss Jo. The children adore her and she brings our letter of the day into her yoga poses. You need to see your children how flexible they are.

We also had Shabbat Party with the Cantor which the children love. Next week we will be working on Purim and Spring.

  • Monday, March 14th: Amazing Athletes
  • Wednesday, March 16th: Anything that is a favorite of your child
