    Technical Requirements

The webcam can be viewed only with Internet Explorer version 5+ or Netscape version 8+. It does not work with other browsers (Firefox, Opera, etc.) because, it requires an ActiveX control from D-Link Corporation.

Depending on how your system is configured, the ActiveX installation could be automatic or you may have to change your Internet Security settings as follows:

From Internet Explorer,
Click: Tools... Internet Options... Security... Custom level...
  • Automatic prompting for ActiveX controls: ENABLE
  • ActiveX controls and plug-ins: ENABLE
  • Download signed ActiveX controls: ENABLE
For Netscape,
Click: Security Center... Site Controls... Site List
  • Check "I Trust This site"
  • Check "ActiveX"
  • Rendering Engine: Internet Explorer

When prompted, click to download and install the ActiveX control.

Note:
It can be dangerous to install ActiveX controls from questionable sources. Do not get in the habit of installing things just because you're curious about something found in an email message.

    Audio Reception

To receive audio, the connection type must be set to UDP (User Datagram Protocol).

    Image Capture

There is no built-in function for capturing images from the webcam but, here's a technique that works...
  • Hit the "Print Scrn" key - This will place a copy of your entire screen on the windows clipboard.
  • Use your favorite photo/paint editor - or install a free copy of IrfanView.
  • Create a new blank image and do a paste from the clipboard.
  • Crop the desired portion of the screen and save it as a .jpg file.

That's how the image at the top of this page was produced.
