Dear Parents,

We are looking forward to our Purim Carnival on Monday! Remember to send your child to school wearing a costume and ready to have fun with lots of games and face painting and music. The children will also get to eat the hamentashen (special cookies) that they baked with their teachers this week.

Thank you to everyone who has registered for camp and for school next year. Our classes are filling up, and I am already planning special events for both the summer and for school 2016-17. Remember that our Early Bird discount on registration fees ends on April 1. Also, in addition to the additional discount of 5% off tuition fees when you pay for the entire school year before September, we are offering a summer camp discount as well: 5% off tuition fees when you sign up for and pay for 6 or more weeks of camp before April 30. The weeks do not have to be in order — any six weeks or more qualify for the discount. Next week we will update you with our themes for each week of camp. Our Camp Director, Mrs. Winter, is very excited about our summer camp plans!

Have a great weekend,

Jennifer

Dear Parents,

Sammy Spider's First PurimCoach Adam begins our week moving during Amazing Athletes.  We spent the remainder of the week talking about Purim.  We made groggers (noise makers) on Tuesday.  It is customary on Purim to give our Mishloach Manot (portions) to our friends on Purim.  We decorated Mishloach Manot bags on Wednesday.  We baked Hamantaschen (triangle shaped cookies) on Thursday and Friday.  We read Sammy Spider’s First Purim, When It’s Purim, The Purim Parade, and The Itty Biddy Bakery.  We also sang “Chag Purim”.

Monday is our Purim carnival.  Be sure to wear or send in a costume.  No masks please.  Each costume should be labeled with your child’s name please.

The cold season is almost behind us, but the Spring allergy season is creeping in.  We could use a few boxes of tissues to help us get through the next few months.

Next week we will be talking about the Jewish holiday of Purim.  Get your costumes ready.  You’ll need them on Monday, March 21.

Thank you Aanya for sharing your birthday with us on Monday.

Shabbat Shalom and have a great weekend!

My goodness, what a busy week it has been for the children in our class!

The noisiest, liveliest Jewish holiday of the year – Purim, is almost here, and we will surely be ready for all the fun and excitement associated with this holiday! Our “Haman” groggers (noisemakers) are ready to shake, and our Shalach Manot baskets are ready to fill with treats to share with our family and friends. This week the children created beautiful masks and crowns, and last week their little hands made delicious chocolate chip hamentashen to eat next week.

The Quiet Quail“Hold on to your hat or that wild March wind will take it far!” That certainly is the truth! The children giggled and laughed when they brought to school the most outrageous hat for our “Crazy Hat day” on Wednesday. We even had a “Crazy hat” parade. Everyone enjoyed creating their very own unusual hat. Their beautiful hat creations are proudly displayed in our hallway for all to see!

We introduced the children to the letter “Q” this week when they decorated a colorful “quilt” for this page of their alphabet book, and enjoyed listening to the story The Quiet Quail.

Amazing Athletes, a wonderful sports and fitness program came to our school on Monday, and all of our students enjoyed strengthening their fine motor and gross motor skills.

Happy 4th Birthday to Ira!

Shabbat Shalom! Have a wonderful weekend!

This week we worked on welcoming in spring and the holiday of Purim. The children learned the story of Purim through a puppet show. They loved listening to the story and even helped me reenact the play. We also read several books about the holiday. The class also made several crafts to go along with the holiday. We made masks becauseon Purim you wear costumes. The class also made baskets which are called shallot manot. They all loved decorating them and will bring home all the projects on Monday, March 21st the day of our Purim carnival. Then they made groggers which are noise makers to use when they hear Haman who wasn’t such a nice man in the story of Purim. We also used Purim for learning. I ask the children words that begin with objects and people of the story of Purim. They love this game and cannot stop laughing. The children also helped to make Hamantashen they loved making it themselves. We will be sending it home on Monday so you are able to try some of our delicious baking. We will send home the recipe so you may try them at home.

Even though we are expecting a chance of a snow storm spring is on its way. We talked about what spring brings and worked on spring addition problems as well as letter recognition pertaining to spring. The class also updated our trees to reflect what they would look like in the spring.

Important dates:

Monday: Curiosity Club – Mrs. Winter and Mrs. Schemo

This week we created beautiful “Under the Sea” pictures and learned so much about the fascinating and intriguing world under the sea. We closed our eyes and imagined that we were deep in the ocean. What might we see there? We learned about a “school of fish.” Is it like our school? The children loved playing with our ocean in a bottle, and they enjoyed listening to the story Fish is Fish by Leo Lionni.

Tuesday: Imagination Station –  Mrs. Tilbor and Mrs. Winter

This week we are learning about Marc Chagall who made stained glass windows in Israel. This is a two day project. We will be taking a tour of stained glass in the building and recreating the Chagall windows with tissue paper.

This week our little world travelers began their journey to Africa, a dark, mysterious continent, famous for its very unusual masks.

We read “Minnie n me. Where’s Fifi?” It was a book about Minnie mouse and we created our own Minnie out of Paper plates. We also talked about spring and made a door hangar to go along with the theme.

Motion and Potions – Mrs. Tilbor and Mrs. Shemo

Since spring is coming, we talked about rain, sun, and rainbows. We baked a rainbow parfait and the children enjoyed eating it for snack. The class also worked on motions as well potions. We listened to music and had a dance party.
