Rafi is ready!

Friday Night and Shabbat Afternoon were wonderful. We shared our Israel experiences. Our guests, Dina, Rebecca & Sarah are all so impressive. Dina’s research team is working to publish a scientific paper. Sarah is working in Tel Aviv with a marketing team and Rebecca(safeerisrael2015.wordpress.com)upon completion of Birthright, is doing so much, she booked a trip from Eilat to Haifa.

It is great to renew friendships in Israel. Its intense!

shul 1 shul 2

When you, we, visit Israel it is “mandatory” to experience a variety of shuls. We have experimented a great deal and loved them all. But for us this Shabbat, the ideal shul was the Conservative synagogue, Moreshet Yisrael, which is also less than 5 minutes from our apartment.  Rabbi Adam Frank welcomed us home.  We couldn’t have been more comfortable. Cantor Ahuva Batz has a beautiful voice, familiar, singable Carlerbach melodies made us very happy.

Beautiful Night or DaySAM_3325

Umbrella-Street-Jerusalem-2Downtown Jerusalem has welcomed summer with … umbrellas! A thousand colorful umbrellas suspended by barely visible string over downtown areas, starting with Yoel Moshe Solomon Street in the historic Nachalat Shiva district just off the Ben-Yehuda pedestrian mall.

First and foremost, however, they’re meant as an attention-catching way to welcome visitors downtown. Yoel Moshe Solomon is one of the capital city’s most artsy lanes, filled with art galleries, jewelry and craft shops, boutiques and cafés. People love to walk through the pedestrian-only street and browse the shops till the wee hours, especially on Thursday and Saturday nights.

The Umbrellas Street Project, produced by Eden-The Jerusalem Center Development Corporation for the municipality, comes along with free shows by local street artists and musicians running through October 5.

What is usually known as the Umbrella Sky Project began several years ago in Agueda, Portugal, and has since spread to streets in Turkey, Serbia, Germany, Cambodia and other countries during the month of July. It was first implemented in Israel in 2013, when 600 colorful umbrellas were suspended over Tel Aviv’s Rothschild Boulevard to celebrate the arrival of free Wi-Fi across the city.
